
Specialized 3.1 S-Works
The highly anticipated successor to the 2.2, introduced with the Gen 4 Levo. Technically, it represents a radical departure: Specialized is ditching the belt drive in favor of a metal gear system. While this slightly increases the weight, it also boosts performance: Since the software update in early 2026, the drive unit delivers a massive 111 Nm of torque and a peak power output of up to 850 watts. The 50-volt system and a decoupled housing for vibration reduction highlight its modern design approach. This is the benchmark for riders seeking maximum power combined with seamless Specialized integration.

Input vs. Output: Specialized 3.1 S-Works
The S-Works version of the 3.1 drive offers a tremendous amount of assistance, even with very little rider input. It hits its peak power output of over 700 watts at just around 130 watts of pedaling effort. It's ideal for riders who want to fly up steep climbs to the summit without breaking too much of a sweat.

Profile: Specialized 3.1 S-Works
The three standard assist levels—Eco, Trail, and Turbo—are linear modes with a fixed assistance ratio; unfortunately, there is currently no progressive mode available. However, riders can customize these levels to their liking via the app, or use Micro Tune and Dynamic Micro Tune to adjust the desired assistance on the fly in 10-step increments.

RPM: Specialized 3.1 S-Works
The cadence response of the Specialized 3.1 S-Works version is remarkable. In our specific testing scenario at 130 watts of input power, it was the strongest motor in the test across the entire rpm spectrum. At a cadence of around 100 rpm, it pumps out over 800 watts (!) of output power. However, once you hit a cadence of around 125 rpm, the power tapers off slightly.

The Specialized 3.1 S-Works motor holds up effortlessly for just over 15 minutes with barely any power loss, but then it experiences a rather abrupt drop of over 20%. Our temperature measurements show that the housing hits around 90°C at this point. Afterward, it stabilizes at this new level while still delivering a notably high absolute power output.
